Celebrities and professional athletes are constantly in the spotlight, but behind the scenes, they face many of the same struggles as the rest of us with contacts and glasses.

Check out some of the reasons they got LASIK vision correction surgery and some lifestyle changes experienced after:

1) Kristin Cavallari had LASIK essentially because contacts were a pain: The reality TV maven, who just launched Very Cavallari on E!, said her eyes hurt when they got too dry or when she was tired. She had to remember to pack extra supplies during her frequent travels and putting in contacts added time to the busy mom's morning routine. She documented her LASIK journey in an online video series.

2) Tom Sandoval of Bravo's Vanderpump Rules hated traveling with contacts. He wanted something more convenient. “I just want to get up in the morning and feel like I’m good to go,” he said, according to TheDoctorsTV.com. “When you can’t see as well, you feel like your world is smaller. I’m just looking forward to expanding my world.”

3) Drew Carey enjoyed water sports more after LASIK. You're probably used to seeing the comedian and game show host with black horn-rimmed glasses, but he hasn't needed them since his LASIK procedure in 2001. He loved the increased peripheral vision and took up sailing without worrying about sea-spray coating his glasses, according to the Houston Chronicle. He also learned that fans didn't recognize him in public without his trademark glasses!

4) LeBron James wanted to see the shot clocks and arena scoreboards. Years before the professional basketball player considered opening a school for underprivileged children, he improved his vision from 20-40 to 20-15 through vision correction surgery, according to Cleveland.com.

5) Nicole Kidman is more in tune with her surroundings after LASIK. Before surgery, the actress only wore glasses to drive or to read the teleprompter at awards shows, but that meant that many of her surroundings were indiscernible. Her whole outlook changed after LASIK; she told Marie Claire:

"I was walking around legally blind. Now I have 20-20 vision. I can't believe I spent so many years blurry, but I think that coincides with how I was feeling. Now I notice if people are watching me, but I also smile right back if someone waves, which helps."

The FAQ covers the basics: You would be asked to "rest" your eyes after the procedure but most people can return to work the next day. They use anesthetic eye drops that make the surgery painless. And, 24-month no interest financing options are available.
