The Westin Portland Harborview Hotel oozes class from it's historic building on High Street in Portland. Once the Eastland Hotel, it was revered for being the largest hotel in New England when it opened in 1927. The original Eastland Hotel welcomed many famous guests, including Aviator Charles Lindber, who snoozed in the sheets after his solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic.

The Eastland could've added another famous name to it's guestbook, but she refused to stay at the hotel without her prized pup, Fala. That guest was Eleanor Roosevelt. According to the Portland Press Herald's article from 2011, Eleanor refused to stay at the Eastland in 1946 when the staff said her dog must spend the night in a kennel and not in her room at the hotel.

After 70 years, a new owner and a new name, the dog policy at the Westin Portland Harborview Hotel has changed a lot. Now, you can stay in one of the dog friendly rooms with your pup and they'll be greeted with treats and a cozy dog bed upon arrival.
