The Suozzo family from Bedford, NH was on the Ellen DeGeneres Show Friday with the thought they came in second to a contest...it was a lie.

The Union Leader reported that they actually came in first. But Ellen called them onstage with them thinking they had come in second place. But how could they have come in second place with this entry in the Scotch Brand's Most Gifted Wrapper Contest.

That's when Ellen revealed that this wasn't second place...it was first! They were presented with a 16,000 dollar check. They were shocked!

The family, Jana (mom) and kids Zach, Kyle, Taylor and Sydney told about how Ralph, their husband and father passed away from multiple system atrophy, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. Taylor wanted to wrap her brother's room before he came back home from his first semester at college to do something fun. The family was dreading their first holiday without dad...

Ellen learned more about the family and presented them with a SECOND check for 20,000 dollars to help! She told the family to keep doing things like this because it brings joy - their goal.

That is incredible. Thank you. Wow. Oh my gosh.

This is why we love Ellen. Because she lets us know about families we may never have known were in our backyard.

The last we heard, the room was still wrapped.
