Honestly I had no idea there was a nature preserve right in Falmouth that is an absolutely fantastic day hike!

A friend told us about this little treasure in Falmouth. It's amazing! I brought Casco the dog and just explored. There are several trails to take with the whole system about 2-3 miles.

It's a perfect place for hiking and cross-country skiing. Several narrow trails wind through a young, mixed forest of hemlock, beech, maple, and yellow and white birch. The two main trails lead to the unspoiled Mill Creek tidal estuary and salt marsh. Although some of the trails are flat, there are some up and downhill parts that mix things up.

There's even a rope to help you down one area...

The kids very much enjoyed that rope. Casco very much enjoyed becoming a muddy mess in the water.

It was so nice to be in the middle of the woods, in my own backyard. Nice to just wonder and day dream...they have all the trails clearly marked so you don't get lost. See the red marker? I did.

If you are in the Falmouth area, stop by. It's just off Route 88 and it's really neat. If you happen to see a very happy dog with muddy paws, that's Casco.
