The Bangor Daily News just reported that a quote about sterilization from the leader of Nazi Germany, a fascist dictator responsible for the murders of more than 10 million people, and the forced sterilization of hundreds of thousands, made it past censors at Bangor High School, and was printed in the 2016 yearbook.

From the story a story written by Nick McCrea, the quotation published in the yearbook read: “Anyone who sees and paints a sky green and the fields blue ought to be sterilized."

The quote appears underneath a photo of Pierre-Luc Bouchard, a senior BHS student. Apparently, nobody caught it before it was sent to press.

Principal Paul Butler claims in the article to have identified "flaws" in the quote submission process. That's a good thing, because when quotations from a genocidal dictator appear in your school's yearbook, you might want to find out how that whole process works.

There were about five people who reviewed every inch of my high school yearbook before they sent it out to Jostens for publication. While I'm not suggesting that Bangor adopt a system as rigid as Biddeford's, they might want to at least run it through a search engine next year to filter all the Hitler quotes out.

Ah... kids these days. You know?
