Five years ago today, Gorham Maine had a tornado and this Cumberland County Sheriff was driving right into it!

At the height of the storm 23,000 homes and businesses lost power. Gov. John Baldacci (remember him?) signed an emergency declaration to let crews from other states come to Maine and help.

The National Weather Service confirmed that tornadoes touched down in Gorham, Limerick and Alfred. Tornadoes are rare for Northern New England.

All three in Maine were classified as EF1, with winds about 90 mph.
