When You Were a Kid, Did You Have a House in Your Neighborhood That You Thought Was Haunted? [PHOTOS]

I think every kid had one. That house nearby that was rumored to be haunted and kids dared each other to try to go inside. This was the "haunted" house in my neighborhood in South Paris just off Western Avenue. I lived one street over on Nichols Street.

Of course it's at the top of a hill. Aren't all haunted houses? The lights never seemed to be on and we never saw anyone come in or out of it. I seem to remember one of the kids dared to go up to it and crawled through a window. They didn't get far as they were scared away by something they heard. They could have also been totally pulling my leg.

At the bottom of this hill is another house that looked haunted too, but I always seem to remember someone living there.

It looks like something right out of the Addams Family. Needless to say we never went to any of these houses when trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Some South Paris historian may know more than I do, but I remember reading that these homes were built for executives at Paris Manufacturing which was across the street at the bottom of this hill.
