I always have a hair tie on my wrist so I can put my hair in a ponytail no matter where I am. It's been a habit as long as I can remember. After reading this news story about a woman in Kentucky, I immediately took my hair tie off my wrist.

According to ABC News, a woman in Kentucky is recovering from surgery after a dangerous infection in her wrist. A large abscess developed where she wore her hair tie on her wrist.

Her surgeon, Dr. Amit Gupta, said, "The amount of bacteria that she had, it can spread very rapidly. Obviously she was getting to the point that if she had waited for a day or two, it could have been bad."

The bacteria found in the woman's wrist was consistent with bacteria found in the mouth. Gupta said, "This is very rare, in my 25 years of experience I’ve never seen this."
