Movie Mom reviewed the latest movie releases in a rare slow July week. The best movie out is for the middle schoolers.

But let's start with Adam Sandler's latest attempt to make a good movie: 'Pixels'.

Movie Mom is not a 1980's video game purist, so she didn't hate it as much as some, but it was not good. She did enjoy the special effects and thought they were fun. But the movie...eh. The movie is about how aliens send video games to kill us off, and the only one who can save us is Adam Sandler. Kevin James is the President of the United States. Right there - enough said. This movie is rated PG-13 for some smutty humor.

Then there's the movie 'Southpaw' with a buff Jake Gyllenhaal. It's every boxing movie cliche all wrapped up into one movie. Movie Mom is a Jack fan, so she enjoyed him - but the movie is not worth going to.

But if you have a middle school aged kid in the house, her pick of the week is 'Paper Towns' by the author that brought you the tear fest 'The Fault in Our Stars' - John Green. Movie Mom thought it was 'funny, and smart and heart warming'. She very much enjoyed the story of a boy who has the girl of his dreams come visit for a one night adventure - then *POOF* disappears. He spends the movie looking for her.

She didn't care for the DVD rentals this week either. And I don't blame her. 'Scooby Doo and KISS Rock and Roll Mystery'. It's a full length movie. Cartoon movie.
