You've heard the old joke that Maine's state bird is the mosquito. Well the 'birds' are coming back soon and using this trick is supposed to help keep their population around your yard down so you can actually enjoy the outdoors. But does it work?

The concept seems like it make sense. Take a 2-liter soda bottle and cut the top third off, put brown sugar, yeast and water in the bottle, put the top back om upside down and place several of them around your yard. The mosquitoes should be attracted to it and when they enter the bottle, they can't get out.

But does it actually work? The video only shows you how to make the trap but no results. Where are the all the mosquitoes?

Douglass Conlin decided shoot a video of his own test. He placed some of these homemade traps in the woods to trap some mosquitoes.

So I guess the verdict is still out on this one. Have you tried this homemade mosquito trap or do you have another homemade trick to keep the mosquitoes away? Share your results with us in the comments below or on Facebook or Twitter.
