On Friday, October 24, Creative Work Systems will partner with Men’s Wearhouse and the Career Centers of Maine for “Suits for Jobs Giveaway,” an opportunity to distribute professional attire to disadvantaged job seekers. The event is intended to empower men in need with appropriate clothing for interviews. The Giveaway will be held from 9 to 12 pm in the Portland Career Center, 185 Lancaster Road.

Staff from Creative Work Systems, Men’s Warehouse and the Career Center will be on hand to distribute suits, ties, and shirts, and visitors will be personally fitted by a Men’s Wearhouse specialist.

“Our goal is to help people with disabilities find jobs and develop careers in the community,” said Shannon Hartmann, Employment Services Manager at Creative Work Systems. “In Maine, people with disabilities are chronically underemployed.”

According to the Maine Department of Labor, the unemployment rate among adults with disabilities is more than twice that of other adults. On average, 31 percent of working-age Mainers with disabilities are employed, compared to 78 percent of those with no disability.

“By providing a job seeker in need with the right clothing for an interview, we can help boost their confidence and provide them with a hand-up toward finding the right job,” Hartmann said.

Suits for Jobs Giveaway is the result of National Suit Drive, a July initiative that encouraged donations of gently used suits, shirts, belts and shoes for people in need who are seeking employment. This marks the seventh straight year that CWS has partnered with Men’s Wearhouse to collect and distribute hundreds of suits.
