For many throughout the state of Maine, deer hunting season is an annual tradition. A family bonding experience, a skill sharpening endeavor and just part of living and existing in Maine. But legal hunters always come under more scrutiny when a case of poaching pops up, and that is what's going on in the Mt. Vernon area of Maine right now.

Shared on Facebook by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, game wardens are asking for help solving of a poaching case involving a large make whitetail deer. Wardens were called to Bean road in Mt. Vernon in late-October and after an investigation, determined the deer was a victim of poaching.

Maine Operation Game Thief, a non-profit organization set up to combat poaching, is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can offer information that leads to a conviction of the poacher or poachers in this particular case. There's a hotline number for the Maine Operation Game Thief at 1-800-ALERT-US (1-800-253-7887) and if callers prefer to remain anonymous, they can do so.
