Google is back in town photographing roads in Portland today for an update to their Google Maps Street View feature.

You can't miss the cars when you see them. Cars painted with the Google logo and maps with a giant ball on a pole mounted to the roof. I spotted the Google car today (November 2) on West Commercial Street around 12:30 in the afternoon, right about here....

I was heading west and the Google car was cruising along in the opposite direction. Here's the Google Street view of where I saw it.

An update is due for Portland for Google Street View. The last time the cars came through was 2011 and this area of Commercial Street has changed significantly in the past four years. The state has built a new trans loading rail facility for Eimskip and Portland Yacht Services has built a new facility in the same area.

It'll take some time to get the update onto Google Maps, but look for it soon, and I'm guessing I'm finally going to make it onto Google Street View driving in my car. That's normal. What's not normal are these things you can actually see on Google Street View.
