Ginger Cote, who bought the South Portland property at 60 Ocean St. in June 2017 for $600,000 had planned on building a new bar called Big Babe’s Tavern on the first floor and then five residential condos above.

According to an article in The Forecaster those plans have been scrapped for a more cozy tavern and a 5 room inn.

Ginger says she is excited about the revised project, and thinks the inn is a better fit for the neighborhood. She's already thinking about offering rental kayaks and bicycles for inn guests, and attract more visitors and foot traffic to the area known as Knightville.

The new plan shows a 47 seat tavern with a separate lounge which will be open for lunch and dinner and be open until midnight.

Ginger had said she wants to hang a plaque in the new tavern as a tribute to Griffin Club founder Eddie Griffin and acknowledgment of the building’s history as a boxing club and Irish pub.
