Scorcher alert! We might be in for some major heat early next week.

According to News Center Maine meteorologist Keith Carson, Maine's heat index could hit 100 on Monday, and that's just not good news for anyone. People are freaking out on Facebook too.

If that happens, we could be looking at one calendar week with a low in the 40s, and a high in the upper 80s or 90s.

What is the heat index? According to the National Weather Service, it's "the quantity expressing the discomfort felt as a result of the combined effects of the temperature and humidity of the air."

So basically, it's like the opposite of the wind chill factor. With highs predicted in the high 80s on Monday and high humidity too, it could feel like 100° out there.

It's time to install those air conditioners if you haven't already!
