Hundreds of Businesses in Maine Use This Pun in Their Name – Here Are 5 of the Strangest
Businesses love to use puns. Just go to any locally owned hair stylist and they're bound to get a little crazy with their name. 'Curl up and Dye' and 'Hair Force One' are real names of hair salons in Maine. There's one pun in Maine so overused that you'll find it in the name of hundreds of businesses with a quick Google search.
No other state lends it's name to punny use like Maine. That's why there are hundreds of businesses in this state called 'Mainely' something. Mainely Sandwiches, Mainely Labs, Mainely Used Cars, Mainely Tubs, Maine-ly Gymnastics, Mainely Grass...the list goes on and on.
Of the hundreds and hundreds of Mainely business out there, I found 5 that I thought were the strangest.
Mainely Urns - Gray
Not sure what to say here. Urns...Mainely.
Maine-ly New Hampshire - Portsmouth
Unfortunately this business that sold things made in New Hampshire closed their doors due to the poor economy back in July. I just don't understand the use of the name. They're in Portsmouth New Hampshire and sell things from New Hampshire, so it's not even mainly New Hampshire. Nothing from Maine and not even in Maine. It's TOTALLY New Hampshire. Maybe they should have gone with 'Totally New Hampshire.' Not punny, but accurate.
Mainely Murders - Kennebunk
Need to bump someone off, but would rather leave it to the professionals? Mainely Murders can handle it for you. Or at least that's what you'd think. It's actually just a bookstore in Kennebunk that only sells suspense, crime, and detective fiction.
Mainely Ticks - Sanford
Mainely Puppies, Mainely Fish, Mainely Ticks. Two of these make great pets. Mainely Ticks won't sell you a cute a cuddly blood sucking, disease carrying insect though. They'll help you prevent finding a new pet latched behind your ear when you go to brush your hair. Creeped out now? Me too. Better get the info on their website.
Mainely Magnetos - Cross Lake Township
Maybe it's the comic book geek in me, but when I saw Mainely Magnetos, I thought this must be the coolest place ever! I guess it makes sense that the X-Men super villain got his name after a real thing. Maybe you knew this but since I flunked physics I didn't. A magneto is a type of electrical generator that uses magnets and this guy way up in the county fixes them for you. Cool, but a little disappointing that I can't buy my very own super villain, so let's just watch some Magneto in action.
