Up until I started on The Q Morning Show with Lori and Jeff, I worked from home. My previous gigs after graduating college afforded me the opportunity to work from my home office when I wasn't on the road or jetting off to another city. Working from home certainly had it's perks but I really missed the interaction with other human life. Seriously, at the end of some days I would start talking to myself out loud just to be sure I still remembered the English language. I never really had a chance to get to know my coworkers because I was always at home or traveling.

Now I come into the studio every morning and spend nearly 5 hours with Lori and Jeff. After that, I work on projects at my desk, surrounded by coworkers. I see the same people every day so by default, I'm starting to get to know all of them much better.

Last Friday night we celebrated Mark Curdo's 11 years at WCYY as he moves onto a new adventure. WCYY is our sister station, so Mark is technically a coworker. The party was packed with people from sales, on-air, and other departments. After wishing Mark the best, a crew of coworkers decided to continue the evening's celebratory festivities.

Chris, he's the one right behind me in the photo, suggested karaoke. I immediately pounced on the idea. Despite my many musical theatre experiences and time on stage, I've never done karaoke before and I've always wanted to. I just can't convince my friends to go for it. My first karaoke experience was so much fun. I think I giggled more than I sang, though.

After karaoke, our night was relatively tame -- we had drinks and migrated up the street to dance to our coworkers mix at a bar (a guy in sales moonlights as a DJ...he's great!) I'm excited to get to know my coworkers better and call them friends. I've never had this type of workplace camaraderie before and it's refreshing!

We had no issues getting back down to work on Monday morning. But I know there must be horror stories out there...

Is being friends with coworkers a good idea?

As I said, I'm new to this area. Help ya girl out.
