When I planned a vacation in Florida, I expected to visit the theme parks in Orlando, to go to the beach and maybe check out Kennedy Space Center. I can honestly say I never thought I'd be at a frog leg festival trying the...uh...delicacy?

The Fellsmere Frog Leg Festival has been a big attraction for the tiny Florida town of Fellsmere since 1990. It began as a way to raise money for recreation programs for the town's kids and grew fast! It now holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest frog festival in the world and the most frog legs served in one day.

The best way I can describe it is it's Florida's version of the Yarmouth Clam Festival with some Fryeburg Fair thrown in and instead of clams, it's all about the frog legs. Music, rides, games, frog jumping contests and frog dinners.

My girlfriend stumbled across the festival while looking for something else to do while we visited Florida besides the usual touristy things. Somehow she knew I'd be game to try frog legs. She did too, but ended up spitting her's out. I have it on video but I'm pretty sure I'd be sleeping on the couch for the rest of my life if I posted it here.

If you're ever in Florida in the middle of January, you should check the frog leg festival out just to say you did. Be brave though. Try a frog leg. It's really not any worse than a clam.
