I've decided that I need to stop drinking caffeine. I just have felt lousy lately and a lot of the symptoms of that lousiness sound like they might be because I'm drinking too much caffeine.

I'm not a coffee drinker. My drink of choice has been Diet Mountain Dew (or the generic Hannaford version in a can) in the giant 32 ounce cup for less than a dollar. It was a good deal and I hate passing up good deals. The problem was I was cashing in on the good deal two to three times a day.

I started off by going cold turkey. BIG mistake. I got a headache that bordered on a migraine. I've had a couple of migraines before that have made me vomit and force me to go into a dark room, cover my eyes and put ear plugs in trying to sleep it away. This withdrawal headache was just shy of that.

Instead I'm going with the weaning method recommended by this article I found on Caffeine Detox. They suggest stepping down my caffeine intake by 50mg every two days until I get to zero. This makes withdrawal symptoms less severe while still keeping me able to function and be productive.

I'm currently down to only two cans of soda a day...24 ounces and follow the rest of the day with flavored water or Crystal Light iced tea. I have to have flavor in my drinks. Straight water is just blah and I can't drink it.

I'm only a few days into this but we'll see how it goes. Have you tired to quit caffeine? Were you successful? Let me know your experience in the comments below or on Facebook and Twitter.
