It's not often that major celebrities come to your area without the paparazzi being all over them. Jan Leno managed to sneak into two New England states, without press coverage.

The former host of NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” and a known car fanatic was in Portland on the Fourth of July to shoot an episode of "Jay Leno's Garage."

After he had already left the area, Leno told a reporter at the Portland Press Herald he came to New England on Monday to film his CNBC car show at Mount Washington in New Hampshire. This episode will feature his Stanley steam-powered car driving through the white mountains.

While Leno was in NH, he stopped by Vito Marcello's Italian Bistro in North Conway.

Then on Tuesday, Leno drove into Portland and stayed at a local hotel. He wouldn't say which hotel, but did say that the truck he was seen driving was not one of his own. It was a rental.
