I'm a huge Star Wars geek. Lori could care less. What happens when the two of us watch the new Star Wars - The Force Awakens trailer separately? One of us cried.

So why do I get so emotional about this trailer? It's simple really when you think about it and will make perfect sense.

Have you ever had something that was so much a part of your childhood that when you see it again a flood of memories comes back? Well that's what Star Wars is for me. For six years of my life between 1977 when Star Wars was released and 1983 when Return of the Jedi hit theaters, my childhood was all about Star Wars.

The time between 1980 and 1983 was the worst because I had to wait three long years to find out if Darth Vader was really Luke's father. I was convinced he wasn't, but (spoiler alert Lori) he was!

My brother and I had every Star Wars toy imaginable. The Death Star play-set, the Milenium Falcon, X-Wing fighters, Tie Fighters, Land speeders, the Yoda puppet and even a really bad lightsaber that was really just a long hollow tube that whistled when you waved it.

This movie is something I've waited 32 years for. Sure there were the Star Wars prequels, but they totally disappointed me. They were not MY Star Wars. My son Jake loved them as well as the original trilogy though and watching them with him made them bearable.

Now in December, The Force Awakens will be in theaters and I will see the first new Star Wars movie with the original cast since I was 12-years-old. Jake will be 9 when it comes out, the same age I was when I saw The Empire Strikes Back. We are already excited to go to a movie theater and have Jake see a brand new Star Wars movie on the big screen, one that will be new to both of us.

What more experience could be more exciting for a Star Wars loving dad than to watch a brand new Star Wars movie with his Star Wars loving son.

That's why I cried.
