Kaplan University, with Maine locations in Lewiston and Augusta, is in the process of being sold to Perdue and will get a new name.

Kaplan is mostly an on-line college that offers career-building education, but had three physical locations in Maine when it purchased Andover College in 2005. The South Portland campus closed in December, but the Lewiston and Augusta locations remain.

According to the Sun Journal, Purdue has agreed to purchase Kaplan University, and once approved, it will be renamed Purdue University Global.

With the focus of Purdue University Global seeming to point toward education from anywhere, could this mean the end of the two reaming campuses in Lewiston and Augusta? We'll have to wait and see after the final step in the approval process happens in February.
