I will admit that I'm not a big Lady Gaga fan. I know she's got a lot of talent, but I think the way she presents herself puts me off a bit. Last night on the Oscars I didn't even recognize her.

I remember when she came to Portland in 2010 for a 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' rally in Deering Oaks. I was near her as she got off the bus and she seemed very cold and stoic. Maybe it was the way she wanted to project herself on the topic she was about to address, but it was not at all what I expected.

Then there's the meat dress. Enough said.

Her performance at the Oscars though was absolutely amazing. She looked beautiful and she sang with such a powerful voice that I could finally see the amazing talent she has. I saw past the character Gaga and saw Stefani Germanotta (her real name).

It was a refreshing look for me at an artist who I didn't take the time to see through the theatrics and recognize what is at her core. She's an amazing singer no matter if she's dressed in meat or a white flowing gown.

Lesson learned.
