Sorry R. Kelly. According to data complied by fancywabs.com Mainers aren't paying attention to you. Actually a lot of the United States is ignoring you, but we Mainers are ignoring you the most.

So I know what you're thinking. "R. Kelly is one of the top 50 artists in the country and one of the most successful R&B artists in the past 10 years. I hear his smash hit with Lady Gaga on the Q all the time! What do you mean we're ignoring him?"

The Music Machinery blog explains how this crazy math problem works like this:

Based on Spotify listening, R. Kelly is the 46th most listened to artist nation wide. Now you compare what rank R.Kelly is in a certain state. They use New Hampshire as an example where R. Kelly is ranked 720th. That's a big difference!

So now you find out which of the top 50 artists has the biggest difference in New Hampshire versus nationwide and THAT is the most ignored artist for that state.

Now here's where Maine stands apart. With only 50 artists,15 states are ignoring R. Kelly. When you increase that to the top 100 artists, that number decreases to 8 states with Maine and New Hampshire still ignoring him. Increase that to the top 200 artists and the only state still ignoring R. Kelly is Maine.

Now I know this isn't exactly the most scientific survey. It only includes Spotify and pretty much anyone in Maine over 40 isn't using Spotify much at all.

So what do you think? Do we really hate R. Kelly or is this just a bad math problem? Let us know in the comments below. Any math majors are free to correct my work. I've never been able to figure out how to solve for X.
