We've got someone in our house that will no longer eat red meat, so it's making dinner choices a little tougher. So, for the first time last night, we made tacos using ground turkey.

I absolutely love tacos made at home with the taco kits you buy at the grocery store. Lettuce, onion, olives, cheese, taco sauce and ground beef. I eat mine as a taco salad in a bowl because it's less messy. This time though we made it with ground turkey instead of beef.

I was told I would never even notice the difference. As soon as the package was opened, I noticed a difference. The texture looked completely different. Mushy, almost like a pâté. Definitely not the same look you get with beef, but I expected that.

How do you know when the turkey is cooked? It's already brown. You can't cook it until it's brown, so do you just guess?

After it was done, the seasoning was added to let it simmer. Once it was ready I tried a bite of it and it tasted just like....turkey. Mexican turkey. Turkey with that taco flavor added in. I could totally tell the difference.

Lori pulled the switcheroo of ground turkey for ground beef with her kids and they never knew. They're kids. They haven't been eating beef tacos for over 40 years to tell the difference.

Sure it's better for you, but I'm not one to sacrifice taste for health. That's just not how I roll. I want to enjoy what I eat and not substitute it with something else for health reasons. I like beef in my tacos and turkey on my sandwiches and Thanksgiving table.

Lucky for me I bought a pound of ground beef as a backup.

Which do you prefer? Ground turkey or ground beef? Can you tell the difference between the two?
