At the end of the 2017 season, Palace Playland said goodbye to one of its longtime attractions, the Galaxi Rollercoaster. The Galaxi had been part of the Palace Playland experience for more than two decades, but ownership decided it was time for a change.

Welcome in the Sea Viper, an Italian made roller coaster that promises to revitalize the beachfront amusement park and its summertime crowds. After the Galaxi coaster was removed, Palace Playland promised that the Sea Viper would be ready to go and operation by the time the park opening on Memorial Day weekend, 2018. After a particularly brutal winter, nobody would have been surprised to see that opening date pushed back. But Palace Playland took to Facebook this week and gave the thumbs up, the Sea Viper is ready to go.

They've been auctioning off the first rides on the new coaster (the auction is now over) but the excitement will continue to build for everyone to get their first ride on the Sea Viper. There are other Sea Viper rollercoasters across the globe made by the same Italian company, however the track for the one in Old Orchard Beach will be a new design.

According to the Palace Playland website, Saturday, May 26th will be the first day where rides are operational.
