The person who dropped off the dog (the dog's name is Abby) has been identified and interviewed by police. The District Attorney’s Office now has this case and are reviewing to see if this person will face criminal charges. But there is good news to come out of this tragic mess.

As we know, Abby was left in the parking lot of the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society Monday night. Workers spent days looking for the dog caught on surveillance video.

Abby was found dead after being hit by a car Thursday.

The outrage, the heartbreak...the pure disbelief that anyone could do this was widespread.

In an interview the woman who left Abby behind says she did it because the dog bit her child. Police investigated the incident and since no skin was broken, they had no cause to take Abby away. The owner of Abby realizes that what she did was not right, but she says that her kids are more important than the dog.

This story went national and here's where the good news comes.

According to Zach Black from the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society:

"People have been calling us left and right from all over the country who just want to help us with the future animals, injured animals that come into our care. People are making donations in memory of this dog that passed away as far as Virginia and people in our own state."

They will use those donations to help injured animals.

Abandoning a dog and that dog dies is a crime. It is punishable up to 5 years in prison. Shelters will bend over backwards to work with anyone who is in a situation where surrendering their pet is the only answer. There are MANY alternatives. Leaving your pet and speeding off is NOT one of them.

There is still a lot of outrage on Facebook. And that outrage is now laser focused on this woman. Let the law take care of her...take your outrage and do some good. Help a shelter in your area. That's where your outrage will actually help.
