I have a nephew and a friend's son who play on a junior varsity soccer team and heard that during their recent game, their opponents played varsity players against their JV players. Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong?

To be fair, I was not at this game, but heard what happened from two different sources. Oxford Hills was playing Cony and at several points during the game varsity players were subbed in for the JV squad. They even had different colored jerseys.

Now I could understand this if the JV team was short on players and a few varsity players had to fill in, but in this case it appeared the entire team was swapped out for varsity players. This is the equivalent of benching the Sea Dogs and putting in the Red Sox.

There is no KVAC rule that strictly prohibits this, but what does this teach these kids? It sounds to me that this is a 'win at any cost' move and does nothing but assure a check in the win column at the expense of good sportsmanship and the development of the Junior Varsity team that was benched. Why would these kids want to move on to varsity if they keep getting benched in favor of players out of their league?

That's my opinion, but I want to know yours. Do you think there should be a rule in place to prevent varsity players from playing in JV games? Take our poll and let us know your thoughts in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
