Portland Parks Safe… For Now

City voters made their voices heard at City Hall when they approved Question 1 to make it harder for the City Council to sell any of Portland's 60 public parks, according to WMTW.

The Portland television news station reported that city voters passed the referendum by a 51 percent to 49 percent margin. The yes vote means the City Council can still sell public parks like Congress Square Plaza if eight of the nine councilors back the sale. If six councilors back the sale of any city park, city residents would be allowed to vote on it before it could be approved.

The Congress Square Plaza was in the eye of the political storm for several weeks and is located in an area that has gone through several changes over the years. For the time being, it will remain in its current state.
