In 1969, Jordan Marsh was the first store opened at the site of what would be the Maine Mall, and there's an amazing picture at the Portland Press Herald that shows the early construction paired with a 2015 photo of the same spot.

A lot has changed since those early days, and a lot has changed over the years as new stores have been built, renovations have taken place, and once big-name stores have gone defunct.

The Maine Mall has a little over 100 stores (including restaurants) as of this post, according to mainemall.com. Some feel like they've been around forever like J.C. Penny and Best Buy, and there's plenty of more recently opened spots making their stamp on the spot like Jordan's Furniture or Round 1.

Still, it's pretty easy to think back to those stores you once used to check out and visit on the regular that just aren't around anymore. (If only we could shop there for one more day today!)

Let's take a trip down memory lane and recall some of the stores that used to exist at the Maine Mall in South Portland but now are there no longer.
