The Coast Guard is asking for your help in finding the thief or thieves who keep stealing the bells and gongs from their buoys of the coast according to an article in Business Insider.

Vandals have hit six buoys in the last six months making it dangerous for ships trying to navigate in low visibility conditions.

The Coast Guard says the bells and gongs are most likely being sold to novelty stores or scrap metal yards. Federal officers and local police are working with retailers and scrap yards to find the missing items and the thieves.

Tampering with buoys is a federal crime with fines up to $25,000 a day and up to one year in prison.

The Coast Guard is asking for anyone with information to please contact the Coast Guard Sector Northern New England.
