This past weekend I was somehow convinced to go for a hike up to Step Falls in Newry. What could convince me? I was told it was a short hike, and it was...mostly uphill. I have to admit though, it was breathtaking at the top.

The trail to the top is clearly marked by the yellow marks on the trees, but it's pretty obvious where you need to walk to get to the top.

It's not a difficult hike, but it's steep in a few areas so there are some stairs to help you climb. I'm pretty sure these aren't up to code.

This was something interesting we saw on the way up. Lots of trees had fallen in the woods, but this big one was uprooted and there was a giant rock right up next to it. How do you suppose that happened?

Finally we saw the stream which meant we were getting close to the falls.

Here's the view from the top. A lot of people were riding the falls like a natural water slide, so our friend Nate decided he would give it a shot. After some hesitation, he took the plunge and it was cold!

You don't need me to tell you that I don't normally do this hiking thing, but the view from the top was worth it and I think I may do it again soon. Maybe by then they'll have installed the elevator.
