Hulu dropped a bombshell on all of us last week with news that Stephen King and J.J. Abrams would reunite for new anthology series Castle Rock, exploring the shared location of a number of King’s iconic stories. Now, the full announcement reveals new details of the 10-episode series, whose production begins later this year.

King himself first confirmed the news over Twitter Friday night with a brief teaser connecting the names and incidents from his decades of storytelling. We’d also learned that Manhattan alum Sam Shaw and Dusty Thomason would helm the Bad Robot project, while Warner Bros. releases a full synopsis for the 10-episode project:

A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.

As outlined above, Castle Rock represents the fictional Maine town where many of King’s stories have been set, including The Dead Zone, Cujo, The Body and others. References to the town can also be found in Creepshow, The Shawshank Redemption, Pet Sematary, It, The Stand, Under the Dome, 11.22.63 and others.

Our understanding is that each season will feature different characters and storylines, but connect with certain themes and characters from previous years, while you can watch the first Castle Rock teaser again below, and stay tuned.
