I have a lot of great childhood memories growing up in South Paris, including getting penny candy at the store down the street from my house. Now that store is a barbecue restaurant and by the look of these photos, I need to pay a visit.

I grew up in this house on Nichols Street in South Paris.

At the bottom of the street, at the corner of Nichols and High, was a corner store called "The Corner Store." Great name right? It's where all the neighborhood kids would go to buy penny candy, return empty soda bottles and where I would buy cigarettes for my mother. It was the 80s and you could get away with that.

Years later, after I moved away, the place changed names a few times. It was a coffee shop for a brief moment and was vacant for some time as well.

In late 2015 a new tennant moved in called Smokin' Dave's BBQ. Like The Corner Store, the name pretty much says it all. Delicious backyard barbecue ribs, pork, burgers and steak. You may have seen Smokin Dave at the Fryeburg Fair.

Now Dave and Marcia Nelson have moved into the old Corner Store and now serve amazing looking food.

Smoked meatloaf?!? Where have you been all my life?

Dave and Marcia have remodeled the old Corner Store, but one thing still remains that was there 45 years ago. The old fashioned walk in cooler. It has latching pull handles and six outer doors, three over three where they used to keep the cold beer. You can see the old style doors behind these delicious looking cupcakes.

I think it's time to go home to South Paris and grab some of this deliciousness. I'll save you a seat.
