Are you an adult and don't know how to swim? It's not too late. Let the Y teach you and it won't cost you a dime...

More than a third of adults in the United States cannot swim 25 yards – the length of a standard pool – putting them at increased risk of drowning. The YMCA of Southern Maine wants to change this. This spring, as part of Adult Learn to Swim Month, the Y will offer a free five-week program in Freeport for adults with little to no swimming experience. The program, called Swimming Saves Lives, is designed to teach skills that increase safety in and enjoyment of the water.

The program runs from April 17 through May 26 and is open to adults aged 18 and older. Membership to the Y is not required. The lessons are paid for through a grant by the Swimming Saves Lives Foundation, the charitable arm of US Masters Swimming. The YMCA of Southern Maine was one of two organizations in Maine to receive a grant from the Foundation this year.

You'll get weekly lessons from volunteer instructors who are US Masters Swimmers. All lessons will take place at the YMCA’s Casco Bay branch in Freeport (14 Old South Freeport Rd.)

You've got to register in advice! So...if this has always been on your bucket list, no excuses - dive in (pun intended).
