I love summers in Maine. I love food. I love summer food festivals in Maine! Here are six I am dying to go to!

THE MAINE WHOOPIE PIE FESTIVAL

I've never had a reason to go to Dover-Foxcroft until I heard about the Maine Whoppie Pie Festival! On Saturday June 25th rain or shine. I love that they have 25 cent samples! That way I could eat my way through several! I shall not be participating in the whoopie pie eating contest.

SOUTH BERWICK STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

Oh oh. Conflict. You better plan your Saturday June 25th, because the 41st South Berwick Strawberry Festival is also on June 25th! Look at these! You gotta squeeze this in. Tons of crafts too!

MAINE RED HOT DOG FESTIVAL

Saturday August 13th up in Dexter they have a whole festival dedicated to the red hot dog. There will be games, a 'bun run', eating contests, inflatable obstacle course and plenty of red hot dogs!

MACHIAS WILD BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL

August 16th through the 21st, up in Machias, it's all things wild blueberry. From a BBQ, dessert buffet, pie eating contest, pie baking contest, a blueberry pancake breakfast (of course) and even an all you can eat fish fry! There's live music and crafts-a-palooza!

YARMOUTH CLAM FESTIVAL

Yup. It's clamtastic! This was the first festival I went to when I moved to Maine 30 years ago. I couldn't stop laughing that there was as festival...about a clam! But then I ate them, and instantly became a fan. In our household, this is the second coming. For years I've been part of the clam shucking contest and just partaking of the food, games, crafts and then more food! The 51st Yarmouth Clam Festival is from July 15th-17th.

MAINE LOBSTER FESTIVAL

The grand daddy of them all...the Maine Lobster Festival! August 3rd through the 7th they will serve up around 17,000 pounds of lobster for the 69th year! I know there is music, and crafts and such...but I gotta say - I'd go for the food. I had a cab driver in Boston and we were chatting. He mentioned that he and his family head up to Maine every year for this festival. He comes for the lobster, and he loves it!

I am sad that I have never been. One thing leads to another and viola, the time is gone! It's on my bucket list. All of these festivals are on my bucket list!

Is there another festival I shouldn't miss? And remember, I need a festival that's focused on the food. Crafts are fine and everything...but I'm a food gal.
