Sometimes I just don't understand how things work. When we stayed with my parents while on vacation, I was given a strict warning about these towels in the guest bathroom. I was so confused by it that of course I had to question it.

As my step mother was showing us where everything was in the bathroom, she eventually pointed to the towels informing us not to use them because they are just for decoration. The practical man in me then of course asked the simple question, "Why?"

I can't even remember all the details of what she then proceeded to explain to me about why the towels are just for decoration except that she searched store after store to find towels that matched the shower curtain and she doesn't want them ruined.

Practical man then asks, "But aren't towels supposed to be used? What am I supposed to dry my hands on?" She then shows me the towels under the sink. Okay fine. I still couldn't wrap my brain around this.

Why would you hang towels in a prominent place, specifically designed to hold towels to keep them within convenient reach, yet not allow anyone to use them? Isn't a towel rack's sole purpose to hold a towel so that you can dry your hands with it?

My next question to her was, "Is the toilet just for decoration too?" She didn't find that as amusing as I did.

So now I'm thinking back to all the times that I have used towels in a bathroom and wondering how many of them I wasn't supposed to use because they were for decoration only. How is anyone supposed to know this?!?!?

So here's the question. Do you have towels that are strictly for decoration? Do you have to tell every guest not to use them? Have you ever used towels that were for decoration? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter or Facebook.
