Did you ever have a green salad served at Thanksgiving when you were a kid that wasn't like any salad you had ever seen before? I did, and now all these years later I figured out what it is.

My dad loved this at Thanksgiving so my grandmother always made it. You take pistachio pudding, crushed pineapple, mini marshmallows, pecans and Cool Whip. Mix it all together and let it chill in the fridge for an hour. Gross.

I thought this was just a thing my grandmother concocted, but no. According to Wikipedia the recipe first appeared in 1976. It may have been invented by the chef at the Watergate Hotel or it might have just been given the name to get attention. No one really seems to know.

But 1976 is right about the time I would have started seeing this at the Thanksgiving table. I really think my dad was the only who ate this. Does anyone else actually like this?

Apparently so.
