As we organize our 13th year of raising money for breast cancer awareness month, it got everybody at the Q thinking about how it all started, with thousands of bras...and 'Bras Across the Bridge' which had never been done before.

When we started, we wanted to raise serious awareness, but still have a little fun with a very unfun topic - breast cancer. With the blessing of the cancer community, we decided to go big by hooking bras together and taking them from one end of the Casco Bay Bridge to the other. By the way, it's about one mile. Trust me...I know it well.

WCSH6 came out to cover the event and a helicopter even got some air shots of the volunteers holding the bras literally across the bridge! Since this story is from the bottom of the archives at WCSH6 - the sound is a bit off...but what fond memories.

Since that day, we have done Cupcakes for a Cure, Quarters for a Cure, we Climbed for a Cure and then we came up with Cans for a Cure and have been doing that since 2006. We found that EVERYONE has bottles and cans.

We raised 750.00 dollars that first year for the Maine Cancer Foundation. Last year we raised over 35,000 dollars. This year our goal is 50,000 dollars - or one million bottles and cans! No one can do it like Q listeners, some of the most giving generous listeners out there.

We are doing Cans for a Cure starting Wednesday October 14th until...well, we're done.
