Early this morning (April 10) Lewiston firemen were battling blazes at different locations.

Crews have responded to multiple fires with the largest being at two apartment buildings at 21 and 23 Howe Street. WGME is reporting that everyone is believed to have made it out safely.

The first fire was reported around 1 a.m. on Oxford Street. The second, just before 3 a.m. on Nichols Street. A third broke out at the apartment building on Howe Street and spread to a second.

According to WMTW, Howe Street was closed off from Ash to Sabattus as well as Horton street where fire trucks were parked. Also responding were crews from Auburn and Lisbon.

A shelter at Bates College is being set up and the Red Cross is is currently assisting victims.
