Watch the U.S. Coast Guard Smash Through the Ice on the Penobscot River
Although it may not look like spring in Maine, the calendar says otherwise. And so does the melting snow and ice.
If the ice isn’t melting at a good pace, it can create ice jams along rivers and lakes and cause flooding. The remedy? Call in the United States Coast Guard to break up the ice!
This video was uploaded at the end of February as USCG ice breakers Bridle and Tackle smash into the ice in preparation for warmer weather, or as it’s called in other states, “spring.”
