Thinking about leaving work early? On the verge of calling in sick after lunch or before you even show up this morning? Need a sign that today is the day you'll finally bust out and do whatever you want? Here it is. This is your sign. I'm going to be a terrible enabler and say do it. Leave work early and go live your life. Don't spend the afternoon catching up on chores or running errands. That's not what spontaneous days off are for. Here's what you should do as soon as you step out into the world for a little freedom.

Call the Person You Love and Bust Them Out of Work, Too

Your significant other, your kids, your mom, your best friend, your dog... Call them, make a plan to bust them out of their job, and start your adventure. You can be spontaneous and free on your own, but if you have someone who will do it with you, it makes it that much sweeter.

Eat a Massive Sandwich and a Bag of Chips

Go get a massive Italian sandwich and some salty chips and find yourself an outdoor space to stuff your face. There's something so indulgent but simple about a loaded Italian sandwich that makes it feel like the perfect work-skipper lunch. Plus, once you dash out of your office the last thing you want to do is lock yourself into another four-walled room.

Go Find Some Water and Sand

Relax for a whole 12 minutes without a computer, phone, or TV. Sit on the sand (you don't even need a chair) and be quiet for a while. You'll have plenty of noise coming at you as soon as your spontaneous day of living your life is over, so for now, just shut up for a bit.

Buy Your Damn Self Some Flowers for Your Kitchen Table

It's peony season and peonies are damn cute. Get yourself some on your way back from your adventures, put them in a vase (or a cup or a bowl or whatever the hell is handy because who cares?) and display them on your kitchen table. Every time you see the flowers in the coming days you'll remember that afternoon you ditched work for a little me time and how good it felt to live your life.
