I saw that Rue McClanahan passed away this weekend. Well, sort of. It was all over Facebook. People were sharing her death on their walls, only problem is, she's been dead since June of 2010. It hit me for a second "is this real?" Then I remembered she's gone and it's an old article. It got me thinking about some interesting facts I heard about "The Golden Girls."

1. Estelle Getty had stage fright...

Estelle had total anxiety over being in from of the camera and the live audience wigged her out. She would flub her line from nerves so much, that a stage hand had to have them on cue cards for her. She also spent the majority of her time in the make-up chair because she was younger than Bea Arthur who played her daughter.

2. Dorothy (Bea Arthur) hated cheesecake...

She thought the taste was disgusting and yet still had to eat it on set during those now famous scenes with the girls late at night. Which goes to show what a great actress she really is!

3. Rue McClanahan was originally cast as Rose (Betty White).

I shutter to think of Rue as anyone but a slut. I just can't even fathom how different the show would have been. The ladies were cast so perfectly.

4. Dorothy Zbornak was a real name...

Well, the last name anyway. Zbornak was the name of one of the stage hands on the set and was used as Dot's famous last name on the show.

5. Rue and Bea didn't really get along. Betty and Rue were the only friends on the show...

None of the girls really stayed in touch after the show ended and that really makes me sad. I want to believe that they stayed friends forever and I also wanted to move in with them and live in their very cool house, snuggling on they wicker furniture and sleeping in the bedroom with the large green leaves.  My goal is to one day build a home that resembles theirs. I might make the table in the kitchen a bit bigger though.
