Correction: An earlier version of this story misidentified the man charged in connection with the accident. We apologize for the error.

Sometimes you come across a headline that jumps right out at you. And your first thought is always, "there's no way that happened here in Maine"... But sure enough, in this case, it did. Of course, the real victims here aren't even people. All the people involved are fine, if not in a heap of trouble.

But Monday night in Gardiner, a man reportedly crossed the centerline and crashed into a flatbed truck loaded down with 50 beehives. This all caused the truck to jackknife and tip over. Naturally, bees immediately flooded the scene of the accident. Wicked angry, agitated, stinging bees, looking for a place to vent their anger.

The next part will hardly come as a surprise.

After some investigation, it was determined that Vadim Albert, 25, of Farmingdale, was driving the car that crossed the centerline and crashed into the truck. Albert was later charged with driving under the influence, in addition to operating a vehicle in violation of conditional release, according to the BDN.

For the love of God, won't someone think of the poor bees?!

Well. folks on the scene did their best. Authorities on the scene, including the driver of the truck, did place some hives on the side of the road to try and recoup some of the bees.

But I'm sure glad I didn't have to answer that call. 50 beehives don't sound like my cup of tea. Although, I'm sure there was plenty of honey!
