One of the things we have a lot of in New England are cool, must visit, small towns.  Let's face it, with the exception of Boston and Providence, even our "cities" are just big small towns.

So, what are the coolest small towns in Maine and New Hampshire?

Recently, an article of travel website Far And Wide detailed the coolest small towns in each state.

For Maine, they chose Bar Harbor.  It was not a surprise to us that they chose Bar Harbor as the coolest small town for Maine.  It is, after all, one of the most quintessential tourist towns on the upper Atlantic coast.  In addition to offering visitors great hotels, amazing restaurants, and cool shops, the town is adjacent to Acadia National Park.  In fact, you need to drive through the park in order to get to the town (unless you come by boat, of course).

For the State of New Hampshire, they chose the Lakes Region town of Meredith.  The town, which was incorporated as Palmer's Town in 1784, sits on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee.  for many, the town becomes a staging area for lake adventures like boating, fishing, and swimming.  And, it becomes a great place to stop as you are riding around New Hampshire during bike week.

And, just because we are talking about New England, the website chose Edgartown as the coolest small town in Massachusetts.  The town, located on the island of Martha's Vineyard, features cool shops, great restaurants, and is surrounded by sandy beaches.  If the name sounds familiar, you have probably heard it quite a bit in the news.  Martha's Vineyard, and more specifically Edgartown, are favorite summer vacation spots of many presidents.

What do you think?  Do you agree with their choices?  Why or why not?
