We had a long rough winter here in Maine and we're all excited that spring has finally arrived except for one thing. The black flies arrived with it. Tired of that cloud of swarming pests around your face? There's an app for your phone that can help. I was pretty skeptical when my girlfriend said that she had found the app and it worked. I had had all the fun I could with my electric fly swatter, so I was game to give it a try. You know what? Maybe it was coincidence, but I swear it worked. You can't beat the price of free either.

What the app does is admit a tone at a frequency that flying pests don't like. Turn it on, put the phone in your pocket and it runs in the background keeping the black flies away. It's supposed to work on mosquitoes too but they haven't show up in the droves that the black flies have so I wasn't able to see how it did with them.

The nice thing is you can't hear the tone, however your kids probably can and it will do a good job in keeping them away too. Every time I would turn it on kids around me would instantly cover their ears. So keep that in mind if you want to keep the neighbor kids off your lawn.

I've got the link for the app I downloaded for Android. I can't seem to find the same one in iTunes, but there are plenty of others to choose from if you want to give it a try.
