One of Maine’s Oldest Drive-In Movie Theaters Announces 70th Season Opening

Drive-in theaters, once hugely popular, have become something of a nostalgic novelty, offering a fun spin on the movie-going experience with a touch of the past for the present day.

According to driveinmovie.com, while there were over 4,000 drive-in theaters at their peak in the 1950s, only about 300 remain.

Well, one of Maine's oldest drive-ins, the Bridgton Twin Drive-In Theatre in Bridgton, has announced it will be returning in April 2026.

When Is the Bridgton Twin Drive-In Theatre in Maine Opening in 2026?

Bridgton Twin Drive-In Theatre shared its tentative opening date on its Facebook page: Friday, April 24.

Obviously, things can change based on the weather (it did snow April 7!) or anything else that might cause a delay, so definitely check back closer to the day.

For comparison, the 2025 opening was April 25, so this new season date sounds right in line.

As for what's playing the first night? That, as well as whether both screens will be used, is still to be determined.

When Did the Bridgton Twin Drive-In Theatre in Maine First Open?

According to its Facebook page, Bridgton Twin Drive-In first opened in 1957 and is "Maine's oldest continuous seasonally operated drive-in theatre."

The landmark drive-in is marking its 70th season this year.

How Many Drive-In Movie Theaters Are in Maine?

While the Bridgton Twin Drive-In is the first to announce a 2026 season return, there are a handful of other drive-ins in Maine.

There's also the Saco Drive-in in Saco, the Skylite Drive-In in Madawaska, Prides Corner Drive-in in Westbrook, and the Narrow Gauge Drive-In in Farmington.
