This New Hampshire Fire Department Saved a Dog’s Life After It Fell Through the Ice
Can you imagine how terrifying it would be to watch your dog, your best buddy, fall through the ice and into freezing cold water below?
Luckily for this dog owner and pup, a local fire department was able to come to the rescue in such a scary situation.
Back in January, a dog had fallen through the ice on a pond on the owner's property but was unable to get out on its own, according to a press release on a Facebook post from Canterbury NH Fire & Rescue.
When the Canterbury Fire Department arrived, a firefighter used multiple ladders placed on the ice to crawl his way to the dog, the press release stated. Once close enough, the firefighter was able to put a rope around the dog and worked to pull it from the water and back to shore with its owner.
The fire department stated that "other than being cold, wet, and fatigued, the dog showed no signs of injury."
What a happy ending that could have certainly turned tragic.
Wondering how long the rescue mission took? Well, according to the press release, from the call to getting the dog safely to shore only took about 20 minutes.
It's that quick work and the multiple responders that showed up beside the Canterbury Fire Department to help out that led to the successful rescue.
This is just another great example of people helping out local pets in dire situations. Two other recent examples from 2023 that come to mind include a lost New Hampshire dog that fell through the ice but was rescued in Maine and another dog that was rescued after being struck by a car and having to endure bitter-cold temperatures.
Bravo to those helping out people and animals in need. It's wonderful to see when a frightening situation can have a happy ending.
