Well, in Freeport, ME, near the Freeport Outlets, you can actually visit a desert in Maine. The name of this desert, well it's called Desert of Maine. So you can actually go shopping at L.L. Bean and the outlets as well as visit a desert on the same day.

Recently, Desert of Maine announced that they will be opening this weekend for the 2022 season. They are planning on opening on Saturday, May 7th, and will only be open on weekends from 10 am-5 pm. However, their hours are destined to be changed after Memorial Day.

After Memorial Day weekend, you can visit the 20 acres of rolling sand dunes known as the Desert of Maine daily from 10 am-6 pm. According to their website, the Desert of Maine has been a great spot for tourists for almost 100 years.

Some things you can expect to see at the Desert of Maine are sand (obviously), campgrounds, a playground, Gemstone Village (a labyrinth where kids can dig for gems), an 1800s Farmhouse museum, and so much more.

If you've already been to Desert of Maine, well, there will actually be something new coming this year. According to Desert of Maine, they are currently wrapping up construction on a mini-golf course and they will be announcing the opening date for that soon!
