I have lived in the beautiful state of Maine my entire life, never mind on how many years that is. Anyhow, I didn't know some of these Maine state symbols, did you?

Let's start with the Maine state flag. I never noticed the writing at the top. "Dirigo" is written at the top of our coat of arms/flag and was adopted in June of 1820. Dirigo is the latin word for "I direct" or "I lead."
